Research Project
BETWEEN WORD AND IMAGE: TIME, AFFECTIONS AND CONTEMPORARY WRITING
The research focuses on both theory and artistic practice, dedicated to investigating procedures relating to the ways of giving meaning to the past and the forms of its inscription in the contemporary. The attention falls on the relationships between materiality and form, documents and testimonies, particularly the ways of representing temporality and spatiality, intertwined with questions about the legacies of modernism, the problem of artistic autonomy, and the expression of the self. A wide range of references is being used to explore the relationship between historical criticism, images, and memory. The aim is to incorporate debates from different fields of knowledge, not just those relating to Western origins and its typical human exceptionalism, which question recurring themes in popular and erudite culture. Secondly, the research aims at practical experimentation in which different genres are studied to analyze artistic options marked by the dilution of disciplinary boundaries in relation to fields such as politics, anthropology, and psychoanalysis. It is about, on the one hand, emphasizing the experimental nature of artistic creation and the mobilization of affections and, on the other hand, being open to academic and non-academic knowledge.
